    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q:

    WHAT IS SMP?

    A:

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a highly effective and realistic solution for individuals dealing with hair loss or thinning hair. Through the precise application of pigments that mimic hair follicles, SMP creates the appearance of a closely shaved or fuller head of hair. Through a detailed consultation, Kareen will provide real expectations.

    Q:

    DOES SMP HURT?

    A:

SMP is much less painful than getting a regular tattoo. Feedback from previous clients
is that the treatment can be mildly uncomfortable. Because pain tolerance is quite
subjective, it's impossible to know how much discomfort a particular individual will
experience during the procedure, however, some of my clients actually fall asleep during the application.

    Q:

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME WITH SMP?

    A:

No downtime is required. You will be given instructions for after-care that may limit
certain activities like anything that induces sweating for 72 hours, getting it wet /
washing or applying any kind of hair regrowth chemicals. The scalp will take
approximately 7-10 days to fully heal.

    Q:

    HOW MUCH DOES SMP COST?

    A:

The cost usually runs between CAD $1500-$3800 + depending on the level of balding,
scaring or thinning. Book a free in-person or by phone consultation and we can provide
an accurate estimate and show you the facility.

    Q:

    IS SMP TOXIC?

    A:

The ink we use is organic, non-toxic and specialized specifically for SMP. There is no
unusual risk or danger involved with SMP.

    Q:

DOES SMP MATCH MY NATURAL HAIR COLOUR?

    A:

Yes, it does. We have pigment to match any hair follicle and colour. We use a Fitzpatrick
skin tone scale and use the existing hair to match anyone’s hair colour.

    Q:

    HOW LONG DOES SMP LAST?

    A:

How long your SMP lasts depends on a few variables like how well you adhere to your
SMP aftercare and long-term care. Other factors that aren't within your control include your immune system's response to the treatment as well as your skin chemistry. On average most people’s SMP lasts about 3 years before a touch up is required, with some exceptions to this rule. Some of our clients might need a touch up after 2 years or annually, while others won't need touch ups for longer than 4 years.

    Q:

WILL SMP DAMAGE MY SCALP OR PREVENT HAIR REGROWTH?

    A:

SMP will not prevent hair re-growth. If you are a person who is in a position to grow their hair back because of alopecia areata or has undergone a hair restoration surgery (SMP can only be done one year post op), rest assured that SMP is non-invasive and does not damage the hair follicles or scalp at any time. If you do experience hair re-growth it will simply grow through the SMP. Needle is administered at a depth of 1.5mm-2mm which is the same depth as a typical micro needling treatment.
