    Frequently Asked Questions

    Q:

    What makes First Glance different?

    A:

In many clinics across Canada and across the world, a large portion if not your entire hair transplant surgery will be performed by technicians. Some clinics will state that their hair transplants are physician directed, however that does not necessarily mean they are physician performed. Some clinics will perform procedures on multiple patients at one time, all overseen by one physician.

We are the only clinic in Manitoba where your FUE procedure is not just overseen, but actually performed by a surgeon. Our focus is entirely on you. You are interested in hair transplant surgery – who would you rather have doing your surgery?

    Q:

How much does a hair transplant cost?

    A:

This depends on several factors. Areas such as the eyebrows are much challenging to deal with compared with areas like the top of the scalp, and so will be costlier. Not shaving your head for the procedure is an option, but will also be more expensive as it requires more time to work around your existing hair.

In general, hair transplant prices start at $5000 and up.

    Q:

How long does a hair transplant last?

    A:

NeoGraft hair transplants are considered a permanent solution for hair loss, as the hair follicles used in the procedure are genetically programmed to grow for a lifetime. However, the results of a NeoGraft procedure will vary from person to person, depending on several factors, including the person's age, health, and genetics.

It is important to realize that hair loss can be a progressive problem in some individuals due to genetics or other factors. There are ways to help prevent further hair loss which will be discussed during your consultation. This can involve interventions such as: laser light therapy, platelet rich plasma injections, or use or an oral medication called finasteride.

Patients should discuss their personal aesthetic goals and expectations with their doctor to determine the best course of action. Some patients may require more than one hair transplant during the course of their lives to attain their desired aesthetic outcome.

    Q:

How many grafts do I need?

    A:

In hair transplants, quantity isn’t everything. The quality of the hairs is equally important. It is better to move less thicker hairs, over many thinner hairs. The best analogy is to think of a forest filled with trees. Less trees with thicker branching trunks will look thicker than more trees with thin, single trunks.

Be wary of clinics offering mega-sessions with thousands of grafts. You may see this offered particularly by clinics abroad who want to make it seem like you are getting a bargain. It is important to realize that there is only a limited amount of donor hair available on the back of your scalp that you can use in your lifetime. Once this hair is taken, it does not grow back. Removing too much hair in one session may preclude you from being able to perform another hair transplant in the future. Attempting to place too many grafts too close together at once, can actually make less of them survive.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Often times, less hairs at one time will give you a superior result in the long term.

    Q:

Does my head need to be shaved?

    A:

One large advantage of the NeoGraft technique is that it does not necessarily require the head to be fully shaved. Shaving the head will make the procedure easier to perform, but we understand that in some patient’s this is simply not an option.

Shaving off the back of the scalp in a thin strip in the donor area is still required, but this can often be hidden. In patients with shorter hair, the hair will typically grow enough within a week to hide the harvested areas. In patients with long hair, we are able to harvest the follicles along thin shaved strips, and then layer the hair between these strips to fully hide the donor site as it heals.

    Q:

What is recovery like after a hair transplant?

    A:

Most people can return to their normal activities within a few days. Once the procedure is complete, the transplanted follicles will begin to grow hair naturally. Within several weeks, you may notice that the transplanted hairs are actually beginning to fall out.

This is completely normal and not a cause for concern. The hair itself is shed, but the transplanted bulb remains deep within the skin. After several months, the hair will begin to regrow from the transplanted follicle. It can take nine to twelve months to see the final result following a hair transplant.

A hair transplant will create a thicker and fuller appearance, but there are limits to what can be achieved.
