About Dr. Jerry Wong

Dr. Wong started a part-time hair transplant practice in 1993 and attended the first ISHRS (International
Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) meeting in Dallas. The majority of doctors performing hair
transplant surgery at the time had undergone the procedure themselves, and much of the work was performed using large plug grafts. Needless to say, the results of these procedures did not look very natural. This was also the time when strip surgery was gaining popularity, and doctors were starting to make use of 1-5 hair grafts at a time. Although these looked significantly better than the plug grafts, they nonetheless failed to blend seamlessly with the existing native hair

In the early days, only a handful of medical professionals recognized the advantages of the lateral slit technique, while the majority continued to employ traditional approaches. Then, in 1997, Dr. Wong and Dr. Hasson established the Hasson and Wong Hair Transplant Clinic, committing themselves exclusively to the art of hair restoration surgery.

Hasson and Wong were trailblazers in this field, introducing numerous innovative techniques, such as tailored blades for recipient sites, precise depth control, densely packing grafts, and scalp stretching exercises. When combined, these methodologies allowed the doctors to safely perform mega sessions, exceeding 5000 grafts.

Several years later, during the ISHRS meeting in Vancouver, these visionary doctors showcased more than twenty live patients to their peers. This remarkable display significantly elevated the standard for hair transplant surgery, illustrating its potential for excellence. It was during this meeting that the lateral slit technique was unanimously adopted as the new industry benchmark.
